Fake meter reader Arrested!

Lee Lamarcus Harris An unregistered sex offender from Hope, posing as a Hope Water and Light Corp. meter reader, was arrested by Hempstead County Sheriff's deputies Tuesday, Nov 3, 2009 inside a Local residence where he had been allegedly visiting.

A Hope Police Department K-9 was called to a residence in the 5700 block of Arkansas Highway 29 South mid-morning to assist HCSO deputies in flushing Lee Lamarcus Harris, 24, of Hope, from the residence. Someone who lives on Highway 29 South became suspicious when they observed a white van with Texas license plates occupied by a black male parking along side homes acting as if he was checking electric meters. The citizen is said to have approached the black male and asked him what he was doing, and the male replied that he worked for Hope Water and Light, and he was reading meters. The citizen was able to get the license number and give a detailed description of the van. More Checks revealed that Harris was wanted by Union County authorities for parole violation on battery, criminal attempt and delivery of a controlled substance and failure to appear charges. Mr. Harris was arrested on the outstanding warrant charges from Union County, for failure to register as a convicted sex offender, resisting arrest and criminal impersonation. As Of Nov 4, 2009 Mr Harris remains in the Hempstead County Detention Center awaiting an initial court appearance.
